Legislative Affairs > 2010 Legislative Affairs

Welcome to the Legislative Affairs Pages

2010 is an important year for our membership.  We all are looking for signs of business beginning to get back on its feet and fly, drive, stay and meet much more frequently than in 2009.  We are all hoping to see signs of recovery.  With it, we'd also like to see our elected representatives become more knowledgeable about Business Travel, its importance to our nation's overall economic health and to every VBTA member's economic recovery.

We have three goals this year.

A.     Raise a minimum of $1000 for the NBTA PAC.  These funds go to support our lobbyist's effort primarily at the federal level.  All funds must be personal donations from the members and are not reimbursable to the members from the companies for which they work.  This is your personal contribution to help fund our efforts to educate our elected representatives on what helps and what potentially harms the business of travel.  Our personal goal should be to triple this amount to become one of the top 5 chapters in the nation.

B.  To write our elected representatives on key issues so that our voices are heard and our positions are known.  From time to time we will be asked to send letters or emails to our representatives.  On the Active Action section under Legislative Affairs you will find the issue you are being asked to support and how to contact your elected representatives.  Our goal is to get a minimum of 60% of the membership responding to every request.

C.  To invite elected representatives to attend our meetings.   We'd like to have at least one elected representative as a speaker in 2010.  We'd also like to have as many elected representatives attend our meetings as we can get to attend.

Finally, if we succeed in these 3 goals, the VBTA Chapter will receive special recognition at the NBTA Convention in Houston!  Be a part of the solution - Let your voice be heard!

On the NBTA New page you will find news summaries brought to us by our lobbying representatives.  Those pages will be updated approximately twice a month and will contain the latest news from Washington and from the various states.

Thank you for your ACTIVE participation within the VBTA!  Together, as one voice, we can make a difference for ourselves, our organizations and our country!
